About Us

Who we are
Our founder is a thought leader in MR agents with over 30 years of academic and research experience. Dr. Sherry's pioneering spirit combines with the knowledge and capabilities of our science team in the lab to bring new and exciting discoveries to the molecular imaging marketplace.

Our scientists are well known in the MRI and radiopharmaceutical industries for offering deep knowledge and new perspectives to the community. They actively publish research papers and are invited to present at international conferences and symposia to share their knowledge and expertise.

Dean Sherry, Ph.D.
A. Dean Sherry, Ph.D., Founder and Chief Scientific Advisor, holds the Cecil & Ida Green Honors Chair Professor of Chemistry at University of Texas at Dallas and is also Professor of Radiology at the University Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Professor Sherry is recognized as a thought leader in novel lanthanide-based MR imaging agents, lanthanide-macrocyclic complexes, and molecular & metabolic imaging agents. Dr. Sherry also uses 2H and 13C tracers to investigate intermediary metabolism in isolated organs and intact animals. He continues to manage research groups on both the UT-Dallas and UT-Southwestern campuses.
Garry E. Kiefer, Ph.D.
Garry E. Kiefer, Ph.D., Director of Operations, recently joined Macrocyclics after completing a productive career with The Dow Chemical Company. He is well recognized in the field of medical chelation chemistry with 25 years experience in the design and development of targeted radiopharmaceuticals, MR contrast agents and optical imaging probes with over 50 patents and publications in the field. Dr. Kiefer's research activities will focus on the architectural design of physiologically responsive contrast agents. In addition, he will be actively involved in the establishment of collaborative ventures that can utilize both the company's GMP production capabilities and the novel intellectual property being developed at Macrocyclics.
Paul Jurek, Ph.D.
Paul Jurek, Ph.D., Analytical Chemist, completed his graduate training with Professor Art Martell at Texas A&M working on synthesis and characterization of macrocyclic - metal ion complexes. Before coming to Macrocyclics, Paul worked as a R&D chemist in inorganic materials, acted as Project Manager for a laboratory testing company, worked as a laboratory consultant specializing in quality systems, pharmaceutical methods development, and QA/QC documentation for cGMP quality systems. He is now responsible for analytical testing and quality development at Macrocyclics.
Meagan R. Skarbek
Meagan R. Skarbek, Sr. Manager, Business & Operations, is a graduate of the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. With a B.B.A. in finance she handles the daily business activities of the company, including customer service, advertising and marketing, accounting, invoicing and accounts payable.
Franklin R. Beckles, Ph.D.
Franklin R. Beckles, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Scientist, recently completed his graduate work at Baylor University under the supervision of Professor Kevin Klausmeyer. He has experience in organometallic and inorganic chemistry, and he will be working in the research and development of novel macrocycles related to molecular imaging applications. Dr. Beckles also serves as an Adjunct Faculty of chemistry at Mountain View Community College in Dallas, TX, where he teaches sophomore and junior organic chemistry lecture and lab sharing his knowledge and extensive hands on experience with the students of the Dallas community.
Erin Clabiorne
Erin Clabiorne graduated with a M.S. degree from Texas Woman's University. She focused her studies on the synthesis of various carbon nitrogen doubled bonded organic compounds for biomedical research purposes. Erin has worked as a chemical advisor for scientific databases, as a chemistry and physics teacher and also in a forensic and toxicology laboratory. Currently she is concentrating on production synthesis and developing new custom macrocyclic compounds.
Nancy Solano
Nancy Solano, Production Chemist, is responsible for the day-to-day production activities within the laboratory, insuring standards compliance. Nancy has been involved in various laboratory positions for more than 20 years. Throughout her career, she has had extensive experience in quality laboratory settings. She holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Baldwin-Wallace College.
Matthew Malinowski
Matthew Malinowski, Production Chemist, completed his undergraduate work and first year of his Masters' studies at the University of Detroit Mercy, and then completed a second year at Texas Tech University. In his studies, Matthew specialized in multidentate ligand syntheses, organic and inorganic chemistry.

Our commitment
Macrocyclics invests in continually improving our products and capabilities. We have active programs in new ligand development, novel imaging technologies, analytical techniques for supporting cGMP production of our products, and we are committed to providing the research services expected by our customers. We have developed proprietary technology that is invaluable to the MRI and radiopharmaceutical research industry and are committed to developing new technologies that make the world a better place to live.
